What is Improvisation?
It
may be easier to say what improv isn't: improv isn't stand-up comedy, it isn't
scripted, and it isn't predictable. If you've never seen improv performed before,
ask your friends if they have. Then ask if they loved it. They'll say yes. Oh,
believe us, they'll say yes all right!
All of us at Running On Improv have trained, taught, performed, or sold
concessions at the world-renowned Bay Area Theater Sports (BATS) School of Improvisation.
Much like the BATS mission, ours is to take our inspiration from the work of
Theater Sports creator Keith Johnstone, and from San Francisco's own tradition
of experimental improvisation. With an emphasis on story, Running On Improv
stands out from the average comedy improv seen in bars and on television. True
to the BATS philosophy, we're continuously exploring both short- and long-form
improvisational theater. So...
